Grain Valley Parks and Recreation is hosting its 14th annual “Feed the Need” food drive and softball tournament. All money and food donations will go to help the Grain Valley Assistance Council in supporting local families in need.
The food drive is being held in cooperation with Mid-America Regional Council, Harvesters of Greater Kansas City and the Grain Valley Assistance Council. Local businesses are encouraged to get involved in this fun contest.
You will receive your barrel(s) the first full week in August, then you’ll have until Aug. 11 to decorate your barrel. This year’s theme is “Cartoons.” The food drive starts as soon as your barrels are decorated. Judges will visit your business between Aug. 25 and 27 to judge all of the decorated barrels. The food drive will finish on Aug. 28.
The coed softball tournament will be held Aug. 9 at Monkey Mountain Sporting Complex in Grain Valley. There is a $275 per team entry fee, 1 umpire is provided per game, 3 games are guaranteed, ASA rules apply with tournament variations, and games will begin at 9 a.m. The deadline to register for the softball tournament is Aug. 1.
