Let the kids learn to tie dye
Tie Dye Day, for children 5 and older, is Saturday at MyArts, 315 N. Main St., Independence.
The kids can learn different techniques for textile dyeing and painting, including tie dye and glue batik. They need to bring their own blank white shirt, which will not be blank nor white when they finish.

Church recognizing real heroes Sunday
“Real Heroes” Will Be Honored Sunday in Oak Grove.
Police, military, fire and EMT’s will be singled out for recognition at 10 a.m., at New Life Assembly Church, 801 S.W. First St., Oak Grove.
Activities include a barbecue lunch, giveaways, military/fire/EMS/police vehicles on display, bounce houses and pictures/autographs with special guests, Retired U.S. Army Col. Teddy Bitner, Willie Wilson (1985 Royals World Series Champion), and KC Wolf (official mascot of the Kansas City Chiefs).
Several VFW posts from the 5th Congresssional District will hold a veterans service and will do an honor guard for the service. After the service, Col. Bitner will perform a Bike Blessing for all motorcycles present.

Improve your pistol shooting skills
A Beyond the Basics of Pistol Shooting class is being taught Sunday evening.
It’s a class for adults and is geared toward more advanced shooters. It will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m., at the Lake City Shooting Range, 28505 E. Truman Road.
Learn to shoot with both your strong and weak hand, work on loading/reloading your pistol, plus learn techniques to improve your overall marksmanship.
