  • St. Marys Medical Center of Blue Springs is to be sold to another hospital management company.
Carondelet Health, the health-care system that owns the hospital, on Monday announced it has signed a letter of intent to sell St. Marys and St. Joseph Medical Center to Ontario, California-based Prime Healthcare Services. However, Carondelets three long-term care facilities, which include St. Marys Manor in Blue Springs, would remain part of Ascension Health, the health system that Carondelet is under.
According to Prime Healthcare Services website, the company owns and operates 26 acute-care hospitals in California, Kansas, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Texas. It employs more than 30,000 people.
Terms of the deal are still confidential and additional details about the sale remain undisclosed until a definitive agreement has been reached, Ascension said in its press release.
Prime Healthcare looks forward to partnering with Carondelet Health and providing high quality healthcare to residents in Kansas City, Blue Springs and their surrounding communities, said Prime Healthcare Services CEO Prem Reddy in the release. Our award-winning clinical and operational expertise combined with Carondelet Healths dedicated physicians, nurses and employees will allow these hospitals and other facilities to continue their legacy of healthcare excellence.
The press release also said Prime Healthcare currently owns and operates two nearby hospitals, Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, and Saint John Hospital in Leavenworth, Kansas, which it acquired from the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System in 2013.
Were very pleased that Prime has continued to honor our spiritual heritage demonstrated in care of patients, especially the poor, at both hospitals, said Diane Steele in the release, who was a board member of Providence and Saint John during the 2013 acquisition.
This isnt the first time Carondelet has tried to sell St. Marys Medical Center. In May 2013, it was announced that St. Marys would be sold to HCAs Midwest Health System, which also owns Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence. But the sale was called off in February 2014 when the Federal Trade Commission did not give regulatory approval for it in the eight months after the initial announcement.
