The Rotary Club of Eastern Independence donated $10,000 to purchase a roller slide for a new playground at McCoy Park in Independence.
A giant check was presented to Unlimited Play, a non-profit organization that helps plan and design fully accessible playgrounds for all children, regardless of their disabilities. The organization began construction on an all-inclusive playground geared for 2 to 5-year-olds at the new Independence Ability Field in McCoy Park this past June. The playground is expected to be fully completed within the next month or two, said Independence Parks and Recreation Director Eric Urfer.
The new roller slide made possible by the Rotary Club’s donation is planned to be available at a separate section of the playgound for children ages 5 and older. This playground section for older children is “hopefully expected” to break ground this fall and available by next summer, Urfer said.
Stephanie Smith said the Eastern Independence Rotary Club was able to donate the check due to the money raised from last year’s Independence Uncorked Festival.
