  • August activities at Burr Oak Woods Nature Center

  • Burr Oak Woods Conservation Nature Center is offering the following programs in August. The Nature Center is located at 1401 N.W. Park Road in Blue Springs. All activities are free, but registration is required, unless otherwise noted. Call 816-228-3766.
    • What's for Dinner, for all ages, 3 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays. Discover what Burr Oak Woods feeds its captive amphibians, fish and turtle. The snakes will be fed Aug. 8 and 22. Walk-ins welcome.
    • Tick, Tick, Tick, for ages 8 and older, 10 to 11 a.m. Aug. 2. Come learn about the purpose of these annoying arachnids. No registration required.
    • Creek Survey, for ages 5 and older, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 9. What lives in or near Burr Oak Creek? Let's find out what lives in or near Burr Oak Creek. We’ll search for aquatic life and explore this important ecosystem.
    • Snakes Alive, for all ages, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 16. Discover how snakes are one of the most surprising groups of animals during this hands-on interactive program. You’ll have the chance to watch snakes as they are fed. No registration required.
    • Wild Ones: Lotions, Potions and Notions, for adults, 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 19. Discover how to make your own organic salves and lotions from native wild plants you find just outside your own back door.
    • Amazing Mammals, for all ages, 1 to 2 p.m. Aug. 23. Missouri is home to nearly 70 species of wild mammals. How many do you think you have seen? Learn about the clues mammals leave behind and play a game that will help you identify who has recently been in your neighborhood. No registration required.
    • Planted Paper, for ages 5 and older, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 30. Many of our native plants are producing seed by late summer. Come make a recycled paper decoration with native seeds that can be enjoyed this season and planted in your garden next spring.
    • Rockin' & Readin' Nature Tales, for ages 2 and older, 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 30. Join us for a story hour as we lead you on fantastic nature adventures! Walk-ins welcome.
