  • The North Independence Branch of Mid-Continent Public Library is offering the following activities for the month of August. The library is located at 317 W. U.S. 24. All activities are free, but registration is required, call 816-252-0950.
    • Teens at the Library, 3 p.m. Wednesdays. Make crafts, watch movies, play games and more.
    • Teen Anime Movie Night, 6:30 p.m. Aug. 5. Call to see what movie is showing.
    • Digital Library Basics, for adults, 10 a.m. Aug. 6. This class explores the basics of the MCPL website, focusing on the new online catalog and a database that provides access to library holdings nationwide.
    • Microsoft Word for Beginners, for adults, 10 a.m. Aug. 13. This introduction will focus on how to create, save, and print a document, and how to access various document templates available to Word users. Bring your own laptop, if you like, but not required.
    • Teen Lock-In: Epic Sci-Fi Extravaganza, 6 p.m. Aug. 15. Join in a crazy time full of fun, friends, and food. Registration and a signed permission form are required.
    • Microsoft Excel Basics, for adults, 10 a.m. Aug. 20. Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program used to help record, organize, and interact with various types of data. There will be a hands-on period to practice creating a spreadsheet document.
    • Microsoft Publisher Basics, for adults, 10 a.m. Aug. 27. Microsoft Publisher is a desktop design program that is great for making flyers, posters, pamphlets, and even desktop publishing. There will be a hands-on period for creating a simple Publisher document.
