The Blue Springs School District is increasing safety at every bus stop this upcoming school year.

Beginning the first day of school, all Blue Springs school buses will have a stop-arm camera attached to its stop sign arm. These cameras will be able to capture license plates numbers of those who do not stop when the stop sign arm is extended.

“It is estimated that nationally 85,279 vehicles pass a stopped school bus in a single day,” the district wrote in a release.

If a vehicle fails to stop when children are loading off and on a school bus, the district’s Department of Public Safety and its Transportation Department will inform violators of the safety violation  in order to keep students safe. The district did not say how it will inform these violators.
