The Inter City Fire Protection District is having a back-to-school event today.

It’s from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fire station, 1702 Blue Ridge Blvd. It’s for residents of Blue Summit, kindergarten through eighth grade. Schools supplies will be given out, and there are free haircuts.

There’s also a back-to-school health and wellness fair from 9 to noon Saturday at the Jackson County Health Department’s offices, 313 S. Liberty St., Independence.

It includes free immunizations that incoming kindergartners and eighth graders need. Parents are asked to bring their children’s’ immunization records.
