‘Power of Words’ is focus on sermon series
Senior Pastor Adam Hamilton will give a four-week sermon series, “The Power of Words,” beginning this Sunday (Aug. 17) at the United Methodist Chuch of the Resurrection.
The church, based in Leawood, has a campus at 601 E. Jefferson, Blue Springs. Worship is at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Nursery care for children from birth through age 3 is available, and Sunday school is for children age 4 through the fifth grade during services. Chapel Hill Presbyterian collects food and toiletries
Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Blue Springs is collecting for UPLIFT during August. Items needed are shampoo, toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, insect repellent, razors, lotion, cough syrup/cough drops, wet-wipes, sunscreen. Canned food needed includes fruit, tuna, beef stew, chili, pork and beans, ravioli, Spam, spaghetti, Vienna sausages. Beverage items include powered hot chocolate mix and large lemonade mix.
The annual Family Fun Fest is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sept. 6. There will be free food, a moon bounce, face painting, cake walk and games. Mr. Stinky Feet will make an appearance at 3:30 p.m.
Fall Sunday school classes begin at 9:15 a.m. Sept. 7 for 3-year-olds to adults. Following the 10:30 a.m. worship service, a pasta luncheon will be served for a $5 donation. Proceeds will benefit Heifer International.

Community breakfast at First Christian
The First Christian Church will hold a community breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. Aug. 29, 30 and 31 at the church, 125 S. Pleasant St., Independence.

St. Marks Catholic Church in Independence is hosting its 10th Annual Craft Show and Business Expo from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14. This is a benefit for the youth ministry at the church.
