A variety of radio controlled large and small model airplanes and helicopters will be performing their aerobatics this Saturday, and you can go watch for free.
The Kansas City Radio Control Association is hosting a National Model Aviation Day Celebration Aug. 16 at Fleming Park in Lee’s Summit. Four model airplane clubs from around the greater Kansas City area will showcase their aircrafts and perform aerial manuevers with them. The flying begins at 9 a.m. just east of N.E. Rennau Drive at Fleming Park and concludes at 5 p.m. To get there from the west, take Missouri 291 to Woods Chapel Road, turn right onto Rennau Drive and then left into the flying field parking lot. To get there from the east, take U.S. 40 west to Woods Chapel Road and turn left, following Woods Chapel to Rennau or take Liggett Road west from Missouri 7, turning left onto Woods Chapel.
Hot dogs and polish sausages will be available for lunch at an additional cost. Although admission is free, the KCRCA will also be collecting donations for the Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit organization that supports a full range of programs and services for this current generation of injured U.S. Military veterans and their families.
