‘Power of Words’ is focus of sermon series

Senior Pastor Adam Hamilton is giving sermon series on, “The Power of Words,” at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection.

The church, based in Leawood, has a campus at 601 E. Jefferson, Blue Springs. Worship is at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Nursery care for children from birth through age 3 is available, and Sunday school is for children age 4 through the fifth grade during services. Community breakfast at First Christian

The First Christian Church will hold a community breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. Aug. 29, 30 and 31 at the church, 125 S. Pleasant St., Independence.

‘Chuck Wagon Cookies’ at St. Matthew UMC

St. Matthew United Methodist Church will be selling “Chuck Wagon Cookies” from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 30 at the church, 2415 R.D. Mize Road, Independence.

The cookies, which consist of two large, homemade chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream sandwiched in-between, are $2 each and will be sold while supplies last.

Craft show and business expo at St. Marks

St. Marks Catholic Church in Independence is hosting its 10th Annual Craft Show and Business Expo from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14. This is a benefit for the youth ministry at the church.
