Grain Valley improved to 2-0 with another shutout win.

After a 9-0 win over Harrisonville last Friday, the Eagles posted a 9-0 Missouri River Valley Conference home victory over Odessa Tuesday.

“They returned four of their top six and I was pleased with the way we played,” Grain Valley coach Randy Draper said.

Kayelee Smith (8-2), Hannah Wiechmann (8-1), Mikki Sickle (8-1), Carly Hofstetter (8-2), Sidney Shields (8-3) and Chelsea Blosser (8-0) swept singles for the Eagles (2-0).

Smith and Wiechmann (8-4), Sickle and Shields (8-0) and Hofstetter and Kristin VanZandt (8-1) combined for the doubles wins.

Grain Valley claimed a 7-2 junior varsity victory.

ST. TERESA’S 7, BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH 2: Blue Springs South coach Jake Estep was proud after a close loss to state power St. Teresa’s.

Tiffany Davenport won 6-4 at No. 1 singles over Mary Claire Connor, and the No. 2 doubles team of Taylor Freund and Sierra Mann prevailed 6-4 for South’s only wins. But Estep said the match was much closer.

“As I told the girls, a (7-2) score isn’t very indicative of how close a match we had,” Estep said. “So many girls played in matches that had epic rallies and points that seemed to go on for hours. Nobody tonight, varsity or JV, looked overworked or overmatched.”

The junior varsity fell 9-0.
