The Blue Springs South volleyball team overcame a slow start Saturday.
The Jaguars trailed early but stormed back to down Gardner-Edgerton (Kan.) 25-18, 25-12 in the first match of the TWC SportsChannel Volleyball Slam Saturday morning at St. James Academy in Lenexa, Kan.
“(We) came out sloppy and with some errors in execution and trailed Gardner early,” South coach Dave MacLean said. “However, our serving was strong the rest of the way and our setters spread the ball around to produce an effective offense to keep Garner on their toes the rest of the way.”
KK’ Stoudemire led a balanced attack with seven kills and six block assists, while Jenna Rau and Courtney Foudre added five kills each for the Jaguars (1-1). Bree O’Sullivan added 10 assists, two kills and four digs while helping lead South’s serving game. Foudre added 10 digs and three aces, Erica Mason had five digs and Paige Reiter had five block assists.
“(We) took control early with strong serving and high energy. We got back a bunch of free balls and our offense really took control,” MacLean said. “The girls warmed up gradually and played with a lot of emotion. They were hungry for a win and were excited to play on TV. Their energy really sparked some great execution in the second set.”
