The Missouri Comets are off to a strong start in the new Major Arena Soccer League.
The Missouri Comets improved to 2-0 this season by defeating the Chicago Mustangs 12-6 Saturday at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
Leo Gibson scored three goals and Alain Matingou and Vahid Assadpour each had two to help spark the Comets.
The Comets took a 6-1 lead into halftime and never looked back. Assadpour scored his fourth goal of the season to start the offense, and goals by Matingou and Ramone Palmer made it 3-1 after the first quarter.
Assadpour scored his second goal of the night at the 2:09 mark to open the second quarter and he assisted on a goal by Max Touloute to make it 5-1. Braithwaite then scored an unassisted goal at the 8:12 mark to make it 6-1.
Gibson scored all three of his unassisted goals in the second half. He sandwiched his first two around Matingou’s second goal. Stefan Stokic added a third-period goal, and Brian Harris and Gibson scored in the fourth.
Danny Waltman made 18 saves to earn the win and improve to 2-0.
Missouri opens its 2014-15 home schedule at 7 p.m. Saturday when the Milwaukee Wave visit the Independence Events Center.
