The Blue Springs population has always been on the move, more so in the 1990s when population figures grew fast.
According to recent figures, Blue Springs has 55,031 residents as of June 2007, according to census figures. That’s beneficial because it allows the city to acquire federal funding, like the Community Development Block Grant, which the City Council has recently used to make downtown improvements.
The city has continued to look ahead, passing resolutions regarding annexation.
Since 1998, approximately 3,500 acres has been annexed into the city.
The intent to annex was used in 2003 when the city moved forward and annexed 2,000 acres in the southern portion of the city. The Chapman Farms project was announced at the end of 2003 to develop land within that annexed area. A variety of single family homes, duplexes, fourplexes, eightplexes, patio homes, senior patio homes and condominiums will be available – with some already available.
Retailers have noticed, including Wal-Mart, which plans to build a superstore near Missouri 7 and Colbern Road. Garden City Bank is building a $6 million facility in that area, too.
Both of those projects will contribute about 700,000 square feet of commercial/office space in Chapman Farms.
Making Blue Springs a destination for work and living is helped by its close proximity to Interstate 70, as well as U.S. 40 and Missouri 7, forging a connection between businesses and residents with neighboring cities and counties.
