Blue Springs, MO —

A long-time Blue Springs business is celebrating its past and gearing up for the future by opening a new office and showroom.

BR Carpet, at 2001 N.W. Jefferson, soon will move next door to a newly constructed facility at 1855 N.W. Jefferson. The new building, at 11,000 square feet, will offer offices upstairs and a new, bigger showroom downstairs. In addition, the showroom will display a larger inventory of dozens of different flooring products, from carpet to vinyls and tile.

The business, which originally opened as Bowman Floor Contracting from a small store on Walnut in downtown Blue Springs, was mostly carpet installation. The business recently was renamed, expanded and added new partners. Joe and Melinda Bowman of Blue Springs operated the original location and have joined with Dana and Debbie Rothaus to form BR Carpet.

Contractors broke ground on the new facility earlier this summer. The owners expect the building to start going up sometime this week, with a move-in date sometime in November.

BR Carpet serves residential and commercial customers.

“We do a little bit of everything,” said Melinda Bowman, who serves as office manager and bookkeeper and also works in sales. “It’s a nice mix.”

The slower economic pace hasn’t hurt BR Carpet’s business. In fact, business has never been better.

“August is always a little off because school is getting started, and that’s where everybody’s focus is,” Melinda said. “But, when housing starts are down, people start looking at their homes, and really loving them,” she said.
