•Independence Outback Steakhouse, 20000 E. Valley View Parkway, is sponsoring a Muscular Dystrophy Association benefit luncheon beginning 11 a.m., Aug. 26. Cost is $20 a person, and all proceeds will benefit MDA and Friedeich’s Ataxia research. Donations will be accept by cash or check.

•Join residents at Greenbriar for an evening filled with dancing to the sweet sounds of the 40s, 50s and 60s for Greenbriar At The Hop.

 The event is 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Dinner includes roast steamship round in au jus, fresh vegetables, tasty potato casserole, bread pudding and luscious strawberry mousse. Entertainment will be provided by Brad Moore.

•Van Horn High School will offer an Adult Education Class starting Aug. 26. Classes will be held Tuesday and Wednesday from 6  to 9 p.m. in classroom 220. Van Horn is at 1109 S. Arlington Ave., in Independence.
