Driver recognized
Officials with UPS recently honored Dale Calder, a tractor trailer driver, for 25 years without an accident. As a result, Calder received a 25-year safe driving award. Calder, of Independence, drives out of the company’s Lenexa location and provides service to the Columbia, Missouri area. UPS drivers log more than two billion miles a year on roads throughout the country with an average of less than one accident per every one million miles driven.
Starbucks closes Lee’s Summit store
A Lee’s Summit location is one of four Kansas City area stores that Starbucks Corp. will close in order to improve long-term profitable growth, according to a news release issued by the corporation. The Lee’s Summit Starbucks is located at 3701 S.W. Hollywood Drive.
The other announced store closings include locations in Lenexa, Overland Park and downtown Kansas City. Starbucks announced July 1 that the company will close a total of 600 stores nationwide. Following the recently announced closings, the company will continue to operate 57 stores throughout the Kansas City area.
Avon announces top representatives
Two Independence Avon representatives recently earned a trip to Las Vegas as a result of their sales which make them among the top sales persons throughout the country. They are: Evelyn Mitchner and Rayana parks-Shaw. The two were honored during the company’s annual President’s Recognition Program, an annual celebration in which top representatives are honored for sales or leadership. Those honored spent June 22 to 26 in Las Vegas and toured local sites, received financial advice from a nationally-recognized personal finance guru and attended a gala awards ceremony.
