The Independence Planning Commission meets every other Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the lower level council chambers at City Hall, 111 E. Maple St. The commission met Tuesday, July 15, 2008, and took the following actions. All votes were unanimous unless otherwise noted.
Continued cases
- Approved a request from Horvath Towers to rezone a 2.48-acre tract of land from single-family residential to general commercial with a special use permit for a cellular tower. The property is north of U.S. 24 and east of Broadway behind 1002 E. U.S. 24. Commissioner Les Boatright voted no.
- Voted to continue a case to rezone a 3.6-acre tract of land from planned industrial to planned general commercial with a special use permit for gasoline sales east of the Little Blue Parkway, south of East 39th Street and west of the Gateway Western Railway. The case was continued until the July 29 meeting.
- Approved the rezoning and comprehensive plan for a 1.3-acre tract of land from single-family residential to planned general commercial to construct a building that will house a video store at the southeast corner of U.S. 24 and North Jackson Drive. Commissioner Karen DeLuccie voted no to the zoning and comprehensive plan.
- Denied the final site plan for the proposed video store at U.S. 24 and Jackson Drive. Most of the building, 6,000 square feet, would house The Family Video Movie Club, Inc., with 1,200 square feet being used as leased retail space. Commissioners Karen DeLuccie, Pat Campbell, Lyn Westfall and Lori Harper voted no. The commissioners unanimously voted to reconsider the site plan and continued it until July 29. '
