Local businesses to be honored by ICED
The Independence Council for Economic Development will hold its third annual Impact Awards Luncheon to recognize local businesses who have made a significant economic impact in Independence during 2009.

Missouri DNR cites several over waste fees
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has referred 18 businesses – including one in Independence – to the state attorney general’s office over failure to pay hazardous waste-related fees from fiscal years 2006 or 2007. The DNR wants the attorney general to recover the outstanding fees including late fees.
Everyday Conoco in Independence was among five businesses in the Kansas City area to be referred. Others are the IRS in the former main post office in Kansas City, Fifth Avenue Cleaners in Kansas City, Gil’s Body Shop in Gladstone and US Cleaners in Kansas City.

CommunityAmerica pays $500,000 dividend
CommunityAmerica Credit Union has paid a dividend of $500,000 to its member-owners today, bringing its total payout over the last decade to more than $13 million. Amounts are based on the member’s use of the credit union’s products and services. CommunityAmerica has 32 branches in the Kansas City, St. Louis and Topeka areas, and it has more than 186,500 members.
