Business executive recognized for efforts

Officials with Business Retention and Expansion International recently granted Teresa Evans, vice president of the Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council, with certification in the development and use of effective business retention and expansion programs.

Evans earned certification from the organization during a training session earlier this month in Wichita. Training included classroom instruction, discussions with practitioners and small-group exercises designed to allow Evans to introduce and lead such a program in Lee’s Summit.



Realtor opens new location

Officials with RE/MAX Heartland REALTORS have opened an office in Oak Grove. Chet Meierarend and RE/MAX Premier Properties has become part of the RE/MAX Heartland Realtors. The Oak Grove location has 10 agents and more than $20 million in volume.

David Rogers, the owner/broker of the heartland group, now has locations in Blue Springs, Independence, Lee’s Summit, Raytown and has a presence in the Grain Valley and Oak Grove area. The population of the area more than doubled during the last census. Rogers has owned and operated offices throughout Eastern Jackson County since the mid-1970s.



Fitness facility opens

Officials with TITLE Boxing Club have opened a location in Pine Tree Plaza, at 336 S.W. Blue Parkway, Lee’s Summit.

The new location offers total body boxing and kickboxing Power Hour workouts for those who want to burn 1,000 calories during a one-hour workout and fitness class. Designed in rounds, these classes capitalize on the training of professional boxers, kick-boxers and mixed martial artists.

The 5,500-square-foot facility offers classes and workout space using Title Boxing equipment and offers equipment for sale in a large retail store. The facility joins the original facility in the Rosana Square Shopping Center in Overland Park.

TITLE Boxing Club is owned by Kansas City businessman Tom Lyons, a retired professional boxer and promoter Danny Campbell and TITLE Boxing Company, the largest distributor of boxing, kickboxing and related equipment with world headquarters in Lenexa.



Companies aid fight against pediatric cancer

Tire Kingdom/TBC Shared Services operating under names including Tire Kingdom, National Tire & Battery and Merchant’s Tire and Auto Center, launched a partnership with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation during its quest to raise money to combat childhood cancer. The stores, with several throughout the area, held an awareness and donations campaign that contributed to the local efforts, which were concentrated in stands set up in local Hy-Vee grocery stores earlier this month. The tire stores offered personalized paper lemons posted at the stores as a way of recognizing donors.   



Photographer rated

Brides registered with The Knot magazine, which provides resources, wedding planning information and interactive tools for brides-to-be, recently selected Royal Photography of Lee’s Summit as one of the leading vendors in the region. The company was one of five in the Kansas City area chosen as a 2008 pick and, as a result, will be listed in “The Knot Best of Weddings” issue, available in bookstores throughout the country.

Company promotes reading campaign

Officials with Silverstein Eye Centers have kicked off an “Eye-70 series” reading program for students attending Operation Breakthrough, Kansas City’s largest care center for underprivileged children.

The event includes a reading incentive campaign that includes tickets to professional baseball games, autographed photos of former Royals player Frank White and an opportunity to throw out the first pitch during a Royals baseball game. The program is supported by Dr. Steven Silverstein and Dr. Kevin Skelsey.

Metcalf Bank names head of retail banking

Paige Scott recently was elected senior vice president, retail banking at this bank at 609 N.E. Missouri 291, Lee’s Summit. Scott, who resides in Lee’s Summit, earned an undergraduate degree from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri and earned an Master’s degree from William Woods University and Southwestern Graduate School Bo Banking in Dallas, Texas.

Online expo in July

Women Business Owners will hold an online seminar filled with learning, shopping and networking, July 17 to 19 and is opened to anyone wanting to attend at www.womenbizowners.org/july.

The international, non-profit organization was founded in 2004 and provides education and support to more than 3,000 women through both online and offline resources.
