A veteran Examiner editor has been named to the top job in the newsroom.
Sheila Davis is the paper’s new executive editor. Except for a three-year break in the mid-1990s, she has been the paper’s managing editor since 1984 and has been with The Examiner since starting as a reporter in the Blue Springs office in 1981.
“Sheila has worked at this newspaper for 26 years and knows this community as well as anyone,” publisher Steve Curd said. “She has worked very hard to earn this position. I know she will carry the torch well.”
Davis, who has a master’s degree from the University of Missouri School of Journalism, has worked for newspapers since 1980. She lives in Independence. Her son, Conor, is a junior at Truman High School.
Davis replaces Dale Brendel, who recently became general manager of the Leavenworth (Kan.) Times.
News editor Stephanie Boothe also has moved into a new position, managing editor. Boothe, of Independence, is a journalism graduate of Missouri Western State University and started her tenure at The Examiner as an intern in 2000. She was later hired as a full-time reporter in June, 2001.
“Stephanie has proven herself to be very capable as a leader, editor and writer at the Examiner. This is the next logical step for her in her career,” Curd said.
Heather Jarvis, who has been with the paper since last May, moves into the position of news editor. The Springfield native is a 2007 journalism graduate from Missouri State University, and is now a resident of Blue Springs.
“We are very pleased to have Heather on board full time after several months as our night copy editor,” Curd said. “She will now be able to utilize her many talents on a full-time basis.”
