Manufacturing Council to hear about exports
The Independence Manufacturing Council will hold its bi-monthly meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Staybridge Suites, 19400 E. 39th Place S., Independence.
The speaker is Regina Heise of the U.S. Commercial Service office Kansas City. The agency is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce. She will cover programs and services and discuss what exporting means to the local economy.

New markets are focus of roundtable discussion
A “New Business Markets” roundtable will be held March 19 at the Brookside room at the Kauffman Center, 4801 Rockhill Road, Kansas City. The event start with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and roundtable discussion from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m.
The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Daley Institute are sponsoring the event, of several around the state in the 2010 Business Innovation Series.

Missouri jobless rate
Missouri’s jobless rate stood at 9.5 percent in January, a jump of 1.4 percentage points in one year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The state had 2.65 million jobs in January, down 84,300 from January 2009. That included a loss of 12,800 jobs in one month – from December to January – the sharpest drop of any state in the country.
The agency’s most recent figures for the Kansas City area are from December and put that rate at 8.6. The agency includes 15 counties on both sides of the state line in that area.
