Have you ever returned a book to any Mid-Continent Public Library? Have you ever requested a book from a MCPL branch? Have you ever taken a book off of a shelf and returned it to a book return cart or to the front desk? I can guarantee if you have done any of the above mentioned activities, you have engaged one of the hardest working groups of our employees…our Pages.

A Page is the title we give to the employees who shelve our books, plus do a myriad of other duties in our branches. Since each branch is different, the duties of each Page are different. Pages here at the Midwest Genealogy Center not only return books to shelves, they also keep those shelves in Dewey Decimal order. Microfilm, fiche, and maps used by patrons at MGC also find their original places due the diligence of our Pages because of their vast familiarity with our collection.

Other duties include indexing our Kansas City Star obituary books, cleaning our microform reader/printers, keeping the copy machines supplied with paper, and filling the form and booklet shelves so our patrons will have what they need, when they need it.

Knowing our collection as they do, Pages are a tremendous help to guide our patrons to the various sections of the Library. The basic question posed, "Where is the film, book, map, or area for (name a county)?" and one of our handy pages will be able to point you in the right direction. So, come on in and keep our pages busy! They love a challenge!
