The Missouri State Archives and MGC Need You!

In partnership with the Midwest Genealogy Center, the Missouri State Archives is looking to recruit volunteers to index the Jackson Examiner and the Independence Examiner newspaper’s biographical card files. The cards cover newspaper announcements from 1898 through the 1960s and include topics like births, deaths, marriages, citizenship, divorces, and more. Compiled on the cards are the names of every person involved in that particular event.

Transcribing the cards is fun and easy. The work can be done from your home computer or laptop at your own pace and schedule. Volunteers will receive detailed instructions, a blank template, and a batch of 100 card images. When complete, the nearly 200,000 index cards will be placed online for public access and research in a searchable database.

If you are interested in volunteering for this project or have questions, please contact the Missouri State Archives eVolunteer Coordinator at: archvol@sos.mo.gov.
