There are so many important factors which determine a child’s school success. School is where your child will learn to follow directions, build friendships, develop social skills and self-regulation, and learn how to learn. School is your child’s profession, for 12 or 13 years, so begin with a game plan which will ensure success. In order for your child to do his very best, teach him how to follow rules by developing your own House Rules. Build a daily routine, which includes scheduled time for homework, play and household responsibilities. Always include bedtime in your schedule, so that gong to bed easily and on-time are part of his routine. Even if your schedule changes from day-to-day, your routine can be consistent. This provides your child with the foundation he needs to know what to expect, and understand what is expected of him. Routines provide comfort for children of all ages. From toddler through teen, build your child’s self-confidence and self-esteem,while minimizing chaos and temper tantrums.Read more in my syndicated column, Develop back-to-school routines for your child.
