David Cook fans still hoping for tickets to a local show may have to wait a little longer.
Cook, who grew up in Blue Springs, is set to perform April 22 at Ameristar Casino to a sold out crowd.
Roxan Kinkade, director of public relations for Ameristar, said the tickets were sold out in a matter of six minutes.
“It’s very exciting,” Kinkade said. “We’re thrilled that he picked Ameristar (as a performance venue).”
Although online searches reveal tickets for the show selling anywhere from $130 to close to $600, Kinkade warns these are not being sold by Ameristar.
“People purchase the tickets for resale,” Kincade said. “We have no control over the way those tickets are sold.”
Still, for those lucky to secure a ticket to the performance, which seats about 1,330 people, Kinkade promised a good show.
“We knew it would be a sold-out show, but we’ve never had a concert sell out in six minutes,” Kinkade said. “The people who get in will get an amazing show.”
Anyone still holding out for a hometown Cook performance may not be completely out of luck. Cook has also agreed to a show at University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, where he attended college.
University spokesman Jeff Murphy said the details of the show are still in the works and said the university hopes to secure a date prior to the end of the school year. Also, he said, it is uncertain whether that show will be open to the public or just UCM students.
“We’re very proud of David Cook and what he’s accomplished,” Murphy said.
The last year has been a whirlwind of activity for Cook and his fans who watched the 2001 Blue Springs South High School graduate rise to fame on “American Idol” before being named the winner May 21, 2008.
Cook’s post-Idol album was certified platinum in February, meaning it sold more than 1 million units. The album also debuted at number three on the Billboard charts.
His self-titled album is currently No. 45 on the Billboard 200 chart. His first single off the album, “Light On” peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard digital song chart, 23 on the pop 100 and 19 on the adult contemporary chart this year. Last year the song peaked at No. 17 on the hot 100 chart. His debut song “Time of my Life,” which he sang after being named the winner, hit No. 1 in 2008 on the adult contemporary chart. According to his Web site davidcookofficial.com, the song went plantinum and was the highest selling debut song in American Idol history.
According to the site, he is the 34th American Idol contestant to appear on the Billboard charts.
His Declaration tour began in Florida on Feb. 13, and Cook said in a video blog on his Web site earlier this month two of his singles “Come Back to Me” and “Bar-ba-sol” will be released soon for radio play.
