Since the death of his brother, Adam, “American Idol” winner David Cook has experienced a lot of emotional support across the globe.
Some of that support has trickled into Blue Springs City Hall.
Merideth Parrish, spokesman for the city, said the city has received not only phone calls expressing support but cards and messages.
“People think automatically that the city has a direct connection with David,” Parrish said. “As much as we’d like that, it’s not true.”
Since Adam lost his life to brain cancer while living in Indiana, Blue Springs residents have sent cards and messages. One offering came from a young girl who wanted to send the Cook family flowers.
“It’s amazing and touching what people do,” Parrish said.
For the time being, Parrish said, the city is directing fans who want to donate to brain cancer research to Cook’s Web site at http://www.davidcookofficial.com/ or www.curebraintumors.org and donate to Team David Cook.
Parrish said the city contacted Cook’s management agency and they asked that fans wishing to send condolences or donate to go to either of those sites.
Parrish said the city may in the near future do something to recognize Adam’s fight against the disease.
As for the cards and messages the city has so far received, she said they will hold on to them and send them on soon.
“We get people who drop off messages even to the parks and recreation department,” Parrish said.
