David Cook has received the University of Central Missouri Outstanding Recent Alumni Award.

Cook, winner of the 2008 ‘American Idol’ competition, received the award from Margaret Herron, president of the UCM Alumni Association, and Becky Klein, association vice president, after he performed in a sold-out concert at the university April 28.

The Outstanding Recent Alumni Award was established by the Alumni Association to recognize alumni whose endeavors in business, professional, civic, and philanthropic organizations, or performing arts, public service, volunteer, political or similar activities are worthy of recognition and have brought honor to the university.
To be eligible, an individual must have graduated from UCM within the past 10 years.

Cook, a Blue  Springs South High School graduate, earned his Bachelor of Science degree in graphic arts technology management at UCM in 2006.

His visit to UCM in April was part of a nationwide tour, featuring performances at college and university campuses.
