Top high school juniors in the Independence School District received the McCoy Award Nov. 12 at the Truman Memorial Building.
The McCoy Award was established in 1902 by the heirs of William McCoy, the first mayor of Independence. The purpose is to promote academic excellence among high school students.
The program now recognizes the top 50 juniors at each of the three high schools, with Van Horn being phased in. Achievement is based on the first four semesters of high school.
