Community members in two local school districts can shop, while helping out their schools at the same time.
The Blue Springs Education Foundation and the FORCE Education Foundation in Fort Osage have partnered with shop-and-contribute programs to raise funds for district programs.
Blue Springs has launched Shop4BlueSpringsSchools.com, an online shopping portal that donates a portion of all purchases made back to the Blue Springs schools.
“The Blue Springs Education Foundation is committed to supporting and enhancing the education of students in the Blue Springs School District,” said Katherine Barton, executive director of the Blue Springs School District Foundation. “Shop4 gives us the opportunity to support these efforts through an activity many people are already doing - shopping online.”
Using the site is simple. Log onto Shop4BlueSpringsSchools.com one time. Download the Helper App, and it will automatically send notifications while shopping on a Shop4 partner site. Among the partner sites are Target, Best Buy, Payless, the NFL Shop, Amazon, Priceline, Famous Footwear, Kohl’s and many others.
“An individual just needs to go to the website, complete a simple registration process and download the helper application. At that point the buyer will be connected to hundreds of nationwide businesses participating in the program. Select the store you want and make your purchase,” Barton said. “It is a way for all patrons to help the district and their neighborhood school.”
Fort Osage has a similar program called the Shop and Contribute funding program. To find the foundation’s shopping page, visit www.force-foundation.org and select the “Ways to Give” tab. Then select the “Shop and Contribute” and the “Shop and Contribute” banner to enter the shopping page. Like Blue Springs’ program, dozens of websites are included in the program including Wal-Mart, PetSmart, Buy.com, Barnes and Noble and Macys.
“There are considerable cutbacks in government funding for school districts, and the gaps have to be filled to maintain an outstanding educational environment for our students,” said Cortney Cooper, executive development director for FORCE. “If you are shopping online anyway, why not do it for a very worthy cause that benefits students in our community?”
