Blue Springs, MO —

The Blue Springs Board of Education met Monday, May 12, 2008, and took the following action (unanimous unless otherwise noted):

• Provided a listing of the 687 staff members who have qualified on the various Career Ladder Stages for a total of $2,736,500. Of this total amount, the fiscal responsibility is split between the state and the district. The amount to be paid by the state is $1,182,850 and the district will pay $1,553,650.

• Accepted resignations from the following certified personnel, effective at the end of the 2007-08 school year. Janelle Barge, Blue Springs High School; Jared Barge, Blue Springs Freshman Center; Sarah Conklin, Blue Springs High School; Sarah Deveney, Moreland Ridge Middle School; Maggie Dooling, William Bryant Elementary; Lois Hembree, Sunny Vale Middle School; Lindsey Hunt, Blue Springs High School; Jason Kusick, Blue Springs South High School; Kelly Long, Moreland Ridge Middle School; Ashlie Meisner, Cordill-Mason Elementary; Makayla Samson, Voy Spears Elementary; Carly Sefrit, William Yates Elementary; and Matt Shirley, Blue Springs South High School.

• Accepted resignation from certified personnel Jessica Holewinski, elementary level, effective prior to the start of the 2008-09 school year.

•  Recommended certified personnel be employed for the 2008-09 school year.

• Approved board resolution for intent to reimburse the district for the purchase of a future site for the future construction of school buildings.

• Approved the A+ Schools Summary Evaluation.

• Approved an Assurance regarding provisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Amendments of 2004.

• Recognized May employee of the month.

• Recognized Dave Hosick for receiving a Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation Building the Future Award.

• Sue Myers, LTEC staff member, was at the meeting to recognize National Better Speech and Hearing month.

• The May Program Highlight was presented by Voy Spears Jr. Elementary and featured Professional Learning Communities. Presenters were staff members, Renee Spaulding, Mona Dunn, Allison Spencer, Amy Stice, and 5th grade students, Ryan McVay and Abbey Widick.

• Assistant Superintendent Jim Finley presented information on state legislative bills that could impact the school district.

• Approved Employee Salary Proposals for certified staff, classified staff and extra duty for 2008-09.

• First reading on policy revision for 3C.9.3: Graduate Credit.

• Approved the following trip requests: Five students from Blue Springs High School and Blue Springs South High School to attend FFA Public Speaking Academy, June 10-12, 2008, at the University of Central Missouri, in Warrensburg, Mo.; for 12 students from Blue Springs High School and Blue Springs South High School to attend the Missouri State FFA Camp June 16-20, 2008, at Camp Rising Sun, Camdenton, Mo.; two to three students from Blue Springs High School and Blue Springs South High School to attend Washington Leadership Conference July 8-13 or July 15-20, 2008, in Washington, D.C.
