Addison Newberry is a senior at Fort Osage High School. He is playing Ike Skidmore in the high school’s fall theater production “Oklahoma.” After an absence of two years, Newberry returns to the stage doing something, he said “that he loves.”
1 Who is Ike Skidmore in “Oklahoma?”
He is an old, rich landowner that can be a little grouchy at times.
2 Why did you want to be in “Oklahoma” this year?
I have not been in a production since my sophomore year, and it was something I really wanted to do again. I have always loved theater, and I wish I could have been more active. I am just glad I am on stage once again.
3 Has it been a challenge to return to the stage?
No, I don’t think so. I am used to all of the “theater language” so it was not hard at all to get back into how things are done.
4 What do you hope the audience enjoys most about “Oklahoma?”
I hope they enjoy the whole shoe – the music, the story, everything. There is a lot of comedy as well as a great story of romance. I think it is something everyone will enjoy.
5 Do you have a favorite song in “Oklahoma?”
I think my favorite is “Kansas City.” That is because the song is about things we don’t normally get to sing about and tells how Kansas City used to be a wild town.
