Grain Valley is gearing up for Halloween, and they need volunteers to make an annual event even more successful for families and an area organization.
The Halloween Hayride is from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Grain Valley Fairgrounds, which is behind the Grain Valley Community Center. Admission is $5 per adult and $4 for children 12-years and under. Admission is discounted $1 with a canned food item. Included in the admission is a hot dog, chips, drink and a Haunted Hayride.
All proceeds along with the donated food go to the Grain Valley Assistance Council.
“This is a fundraiser to help raise money for the needy in our community,” said Lisa Limberg, who is with the Grain Valley Assistance Council. “I think we have been doing this at least 18 to 20 years. It is a safe and friendly event, which is great for families and people of al ages.”
A variety of activities will be available at the hayride, including the Focus Witches Corner and a Haunted School Bus. A costume contest will award prizes for the scariest, funniest and best costume. Age divisions for the contest are infant to 4 years, 5 to 8 years, and 9 to 12 years. More than 1,000 people come to the event each year.
Limberg said help is still needed for the hayride. She said the assistance council is asking individuals, businesses or organizations to get together to create a “scary scene” along the Haunted Hayride route. Scenes can be scary, but groups are urged to make the scene kid-friendly as well. Set-up is Oct. 24, the evening before the hayride, and those creating scenes are responsible for whatever equipment or supplies they need.
“We need anyone that would be interested in doing a scene that is considered kid-friendly,” Limberg said. “We would like at least 10-15 scenes, and it consists of whatever people are creative enough to put together.”
