Eastern Jackson County, MO —
Filing in area boards of education races has ended, and the result might surprise some voters.
Because only two people filed for two open seats in all, but one of the Eastern Jackson County school districts, no election has to be held April 2. The only exception is the Raytown School District, which had four people file for two open seats. The Independence School District only has elections in even years, so there is no election in 2013 in that district as well.
Candidates for election must be resident taxpayers of the school district and have resided in Missouri for at least one year preceding the election. In addition, they must be at least 24 years old.
The following are those who have filed in each of the area school districts.
- Blue Springs - Incumbents Dave Wright and Rhonda Gilstrap filed. Two seats are open, and terms are for three years.
- Fort Osage - Incumbents Sharon Dankenbring and Carol Marcks filed. Two seats are open, and terms are for three years.
- Grain Valley - Incumbents Michael Hackett and Julie Groff filed. Two seats are open, and terms are for three years.
- Lee’s Summit - Incumbent Phyllis Balagna and newcomer Bob White. The second incumbent, Gene Brixey, did not file. Two seats are open, and terms are for three years.
- Raytown - Incumbents Rick Thode and Bobbie Saulsberry filed as well as newcomers Pam Arlund and Ken Grist. Two seats are open, and terms are for three years.
