Kodie Burns is a senior at Grain Valley High School. He is playing the King in this fall’s production of “Cinderella.” A honor roll student at Grain Valley, this is the second theater production for Burns who was also in 2008’s “Footloose.”

1 Why have you enjoyed playing the character of the King in “Cinderella?” He has funny lines and songs. He really provides the only comic relief on stage. I think that is what I enjoy most about this character.

2 Why do you enjoy being in theater productions at Grain Valley High School? I really enjoy the acting and singing and have since I was little. Also, “Cinderella” is a classic and it is a real opportunity to be able to perform in it.

3 What is your favorite song in “Cinderella?”
Definitely “Your Majesties.” I think it is because I am not wearing any pants and get to sing about beer. It really is a funny song.”

4 What has been your greatest challenge in preparing for this role?
I think the hardest part is getting into character and staying in character. Also, putting all of my effort into the role even if I am having an off day.

5 Is there a lesson you hope audience members take away with them after seeing “Cinderella?”
I hope they see that even if something seems unlikely, that if you put your heart into it, you will achieve what you want.
