The Puppetry Arts Institute will host “Hansel & Gretel” 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the institute, 11025 E. Winner Road in Independence.
The marionette show will feature the hand-carved marionettes of Robert LeRoy Smith, one of the five founding fathers of the Puppetry Arts Institute and a native of Independence. Smith traveled extensively during his career as an artist and later settled in the San Francisco area.
In this traditional retelling of “Hansel & Gretel,” the children get the best of the witch and there are animals introduced to the story as well.
Cost is $5 per person and includes a tour of the museum and a free finger puppet for each child, suitable for 3 though adult.
