The City of Independence Environmental Health Division conducts inspections anywhere food is handled, prepared and served to the public within city limits. Critical violations must be handled within 72 hours. 

El Volcan Mexican Grill and Cantina, 17110 E. U.S. 24 – On Oct. 4, inspectors observed an employee attempting to place tortilla chips in a basket with her bare hands; a scoop must be provided. A glass was in the basin of the hand sink just inside of kitchen. 

Dirt Cheap Smokes and Liquor, 16820 E. U.S. 24 – On Oct. 6, the faucet of the mop sink was leaking badly and causing mold to grow on the surrounding walls; remediate the mold, must be repaired within 2 weeks. No paper towels were found in employee restroom. 

Sonic Drive-In, 16909 E. U.S. 24 – On Oct. 6, the floor under the fryers was extremely grease laden and covered in food debris; this is an attractant for pests and a fire hazard and must be cleaned, re-inspection in two weeks. Walls around the mop sink were dirty and moldy. 

Starbucks, 18700 E. 39th St. – On Oct. 6, the buckets at the steamer registered no sanitizer. 

Wing Lee, 910 Atherton Road – On Oct. 6, raw beef in the make table was 49.8; discarded. No sanitized water found. Wiping cloths were lying on multiple surfaces throughout the kitchen and food prep areas; must be stored in sanitizing solution to prevent bacterial growth. 

Little Caesars, 11203 E. U.S. 24 – On Oct. 7, hoses at the 3-compartment sink were below the water line. Toilet tissue in the employee restroom was not in a dispenser. 

Samurai Chef Steakhouse and Sushi, 12712 E. U.S. 40 – On Oct. 7, a brush and wrench were found in the back hand washing sink by the freezer. An employee seen dumping sanitizer water and refilling bucket at hand sink.. The sanitizer bucket contained no sanitizer. No paper towels were found at the hand sink in the bar area. 

24 Highway Shell, 15396 E. U.S. 24 – On Oct. 7, there were no paper towels nor a paper towel dispenser in the restroom. 

Denny's, 3939 S. Noland Road – On Oct. 10, the dish machine was not distributing sanitizer throughout machine correctly; although the chemical bucket was hooked up, the test strips showed none in machine after cycle completion; corrected. 

Erin's Pub, 3010 S. M-291 – On Oct. 10, inspectors found tomatoes t 55.6 degrees; discarded. 

Mr Goodcents Subs & Pasta, 3010 S. M-291 – On Oct. 10, meats, such as ham and turkey, were stored above tomatoes in the cooler. Two hoses at the 3-compartment sink were under water. 

QuikTrip, 4024 S. Noland Road – On Oct. 10, a wiping cloth was found on the edge of the hand sink in the kitchen. 

Subway, 2650 Hub Drive – On Oct. 10, there was no sanitizer in the sanitizer bucket. 

Benton Elementary School, 429 S. Leslie St. – On Oct. 11, there was no sanitizer in the sanitizer bucket. 

Great American Cookies, 18813 E. 39th St. S. – Oct. 11, there was no sanitizer in the sanitizer buckets. There was no soap at the back area hand sink and no proper paper towel dispenser. 

World Liquors, 3900 S. Noland Road – On Oct. 11, there were no paper towels at the hand sink in the fountain area. 

China Wok, 17911 E. U.S. 24 – On Oct. 12, raw chicken and shrimp in the make table were 49 degrees; discarded. The make table not holding a temperature of 40 degrees or lower; all product was removed and temperature was adjusted. No sanitized water was found in the facility; corrected. The employee restroom was dirty and cluttered and toilet seat must be replaced. There were no paper towels in the dispenser. 

McDonald's, 16802 E. Gudgell Road – On Oct. 12, 30 employees had no food handler cards and 2 managers had no food manager cards; staff must have their food handler cards by Nov. 9 and managers by Nov. 15. 

Terra Health & Wellness Market, 19800 E. Jackson Drive – On Oct. 12, no paper towel dispensers were found at the customer hand sink near the salad bar or in the salad prep area.
