The City of Independence Environmental Health Division conducts inspections anywhere food is handled, prepared and served to the public within city limits. Critical violations must be handled within 72 hours.
Gold Lion, 2411 S. M-291 – On March 27, inspectors observed wontons being wrapped in the dining area and they found no sanitizer made up.
East Buffet, 11825 E. U.S. 40 – On March 28, multiple food items were out of temperature and all were discarded. Unlabeled spray bottles were found throughout kitchen, grease was dripping off of the ansel system in the vent hood over the woks, and cutting utensils were sitting in water. The sanitizer buckets contained soap and water, but no sanitizer.
Salvatore's, 12801 E. U.S. 40 – On March 28, no tongs for drink garnishes were found at the bar, sanitized water could not be found on the cook line, the hand sink in the back room was in accessible, and no paper towels were in dispenser in employee restroom.
Dragonfly Tea Zone, 18801 E. 39th St. – On March 29, inspectors found a spray bottle with at green nozzle without a label, and both food handlers were preparing drinks or food without washing hands.
Golden Corral, 19120 E. Valley View Pkwy. – On March 29, an employee was observed changing gloves without washing hands; corrected through discussion. No sanitized water could be located in the area where the chicken was being prepared, The floor sink beneath the 3-compartment sink was draining very slowly causing floor to flood; repair. The hand sink in the meat room was covered with a sheet pan of chicken, the hand sink in the fryer area was blocked by a trash can, and the hand sink in area of the 3-compartment sink had a stainless steel scrubber in the basin.
Little Caesars, 11203 E. U.S. 24 – On March 29, an employee was observed filling a pitcher with water from the hand sink and a pitcher was being stored in the basin of the hand sink.
Amigo Joes Salsa LLC, 201 N. Forest Ave. – On March 30, there was no sanitizer made up while doing prep work.
Tokyo Star, 19321 E. U.S. 40 – On March 30, no sanitized water was found in the kitchen or prep areas. A stainless steel pan was found in the basin of a hand sink in the kitchen; corrected.
Family Dollar, 11213 E. U.S. 24 – On March 31, the paper towel dispenser in the employee restroom was empty.
East Buffet, 11825 E. U.S. 40 – On April 3, egg custard pies and seafood cakes were out of temperature at 98 degrees; discarded.
Pie Five Pizza Co., 188921 E. Valley View Pkwy. – On April 4, the hand sink on the front line found had a green scrubber in the basin, and the hand sink in the ware washing area had a dough board and knife were covering the basin.
Fazoli's, 19008 E. 39th St. S. – On April 5, the ice scoop handle was found in the ice in the soda fountain by drive thru; corrected. The sanitizer bucket was in the hand sink across from walk-in and a jug was sitting in the ice maker. An employee was told to remove her facial piercing repeatedly and she touched her nose repeatedly and never washed her hands; she was told to leave.
Los Campas, 18011 E. U.S. 24 – On April 7, the reach-in cooler was out of temperature; repair. An employee attempted to put on gloves without first washing hands. The sanitizer dispenser used to make sanitized water buckets was not functioning; repair. The hand sinks in the prep area and in the wait station had no paper towels in the dispenser. The hand sink soap dispenser at the end of the cook line was empty.
Sonic Drive In, 4001 S. Jackson Drive – On April 7, there was grease dripping off of angles at vent hoods over fryers and grill.
Corner Cafe, 4215 S. Little Blue Pkwy. – On April 10, several items in coolers and cooler drawers on the cook line were out of temperature; discarded, repair. Ice was found in several hand sinks. The paper towel dispenser in the prep area found was empty; corrected.
Villa Pizza of Independence, 106 Independence Center Drive – On April 10, inspectors found pasta salad at 58 degrees; discarded.
Discount Smokes, 1116 S. Crysler Ave. – On April 11, inspectors observed cockroaches in the dish washing area.
