VBS has Dr. Seuss theme at St. Luke's UCC 

St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Independence will hold its VBS from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The theme this year follows Dr. Seuss' “Yertle the Turtle” and “Bartholomew and the Oobleck.” Children will enjoy story time, games and crafts. Lunch will be provided.

Messiah Lutheran VBS this week

VBS will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 613 S. Main St., Independence. “Mighty Fortress, in Jesus the Victory is Won” will be the theme.

During the week, children ages 3 to 11 will look into the Bible to see God's word through real stories about real people. There will be hands-on crafts and high energy music that are enriched with gospel truths that build faith now and for a lifetime.

First Baptist in Grain Valley VBS starts Monday

Looking for a fun adventure this summer? Kids will become Galactic Starveyors during VBS at the First Baptist Church, 207 W. Walnut St., Grain Valley. It will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday.

Registration is now open for children ages 5 years through 6th grade (just completed). With tracks for preschool, kindergarten through 4th grade, and a preteen mini camp for 5th and 6th graders. Kids will enjoy a week of searching the stars and learning about the Creator of the universe.

 

Garage sale at Colonial Hills next week 

Colonial Hills Community of Christ will be holding a huge church garage sale from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 15, at the church, 3539 S.W. Missouri 7, Blue Springs.

Select from furniture, housewares, dishes, home decor items, seasonal decorations, clothing, shoes, toys, tools, books, luggage, sporting goods, electronics and much more. The sale is inside and air-conditioned! Enjoy a meal with them, too.

St. Cyril's Day July 15 in Sugar Creek

St. Cyril's Parish is hosting its sixth annual St. Cyril's Day celebrating the Feast of Saints Cyril and Methodius on July 15 at the church, 11231 Chicago St., in Sugar Creek.

A High Mass, complete with Gregorian chant and polyphony, will be at 6 p.m.

After Mass, there will be a party outside and downstairs, with dinner and music by the Sugar Creek Tamburitzans and members of the Hrvatski Obicaj. The dinner menu includes Croatian stew and bell cooking, potato salad, coleslaw, desserts and beverages. A free-will offering will be accepted.
