The theme this week is “God's Children See His Kingdom” at the 10:20 a.m. Sunday worship service at Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.

New Salem Baptist VBS starting Monday

Galactic Stargazers VBS will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, at New Salem Baptist Church, 1805 N. Blue Mills Road, Independence.

Classes are for kindergarten through 6th grades, and includes activities and snacks.

Oakland UMC celebrates 136 years

On July 3O, the Oakland United Methodist Church congregation will celebrate 136 years as a community of faith in Eastern Jackson County. Instead of the traditional morning worship service, a l0 a.m. outdoor service-in-song will be led by The Circuit Riders, a well-known men’s “faith-in-harmony” group, and the new steeple will be dedicated.

Everyone is invited to bring a dish-to-share and lawn chairs for a pot-luck brunch and a good visit following the service.

The church, located at 30701 E. Truman Road near Buckner, was constructed in 1881 on an acre of ground donated by John Van Dyke, with materials and labor provided by residents of the community.


Timothy Lutheran's rummage sale upcoming

Timothy Lutheran School will holds it annual rummage sale, Aug. 3 through 5, in the Family Life Center at the church, 425 N.W. R.D. Mize Road, Blue Springs. Sale hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

There will clothing, toys, household items, furniture, books, jewelry, knickknacks, and much more. Proceeds will benefit the school's scholarship fun.
