Westlake Ace Hardware recently hosted its annual Fan Drive for The Salvation Army to benefit local communities and help those in need beat the summer heat. In the span of just 18 days, Westlake’s customers donated more than $50,000 nationally to the charity. That money was used to purchase more than 3,300 fans.
Westlake kicked off the fan drive with a donation of 500 fans. Following the kickoff, each of Westlake’s store locations asked customers to donate at the register. For a $5 donation, one ‘fan blade’ could be given, $10 provided two ‘fan blades’, $15 for ‘three blades’ or $20 for the ‘entire fan.’ Westlake turned the donated funds into fans by giving the fans at cost to The Salvation Army.
The fan drive began several years ago in just one store in Hutchinson, Kan., and has since evolved to become one of Westlake’s largest chain-wide community service projects.
