In an effort to keep our streams clean, the City of Lee’s Summit Public Works Department is organizing a “Stream Team” from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 14, to clean up litter from the creek in Deer Valley Park, 1400 N.E. Neawanna Drive, Lee’s Summit.
Trash and other materials dumped on stream banks, such as yard waste, threatens the water quality of streams by decomposing and eliminating critical, life-giving oxygen from the water. Trash is not only collected by stormwater and transported to nearby lakes and streams, it frequently contains toxic materials that can pollute lakes and streams. This is why volunteer efforts are so important to our community.
Student and Boy/Girl Scout community service hours will be available. Court-ordered community service will not be offered at this event.
Volunteers will meet at Deer Valley Park and will receive instructions and supplies consisting of gloves and trash bags. Lunch will be provided at 11:30 a.m. at the park. Prizes will be awarded for collecting the most unique items.
To volunteer, call the Public Works Department at 816-969-1800.
