The Civil War Round Table of Western Missouri will feature the program of Robert Walz on the “Railroads of the Confederacy” at its monthly meeting on Wednesday. Mr. Walz previously talked to the Round Table about the role the Union railroads played in the Civil War.
The meeting will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Village Heights Community of Christ church, 1009 Farview Drive, Independence, at 7 p.m., with refreshments following. The program is free and open to the public.
Mr. Walz has long been a railroad enthusiast and has chosen to model the Santa Fe. He has collected locomotives and equipment across the eras and has written twelve books on various aspects of the Santa Fe. His interest in Civil War history came about through his friendship with Dr. Chris Gabel when they both taught at the Army’s Command and General Staff College. He continues to share Dr. Gabel’s research after he moved away from Fort Leavenworth.
