First Christian holding community breakfast

The First Christian Church is holding a community breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, in the Fellowship Hall at the church, 125 S. Pleasant St., Independence.

The cost is $3.50 for either a half order of biscuits and gravy or all-you-can-eat pancakes with sausage, and $5 for a full order of biscuits and gravy. All meals include coffee and juice.

Stone Church theme 'Through God's Eyes'

The theme this Sunday is “See Through God’s Eyes” at the 10:20 a.m. worship service at the Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.

The speakers are Kent Parker and Holly Ross-Underwood, with Terry Snapp as presider. The sacrament of confirmation for Colin and Evan Sullivan will be the focus of this service. Other participants are Gail Woodstock, LaDora Cripps and Esther Mills, with Barbara Fears and Paulette V. Resch as musicians for the service.

Remembrance service planned at Eastgate Christian

Eastgate Christian Church will hold a special Service of Remembrance at 5 p.m. Dec. 2, 4010 S. River Blvd., Independence. It can be difficult to celebrate during the holiday season when we feel the pain of loved ones we have lost. This evening worship service will honor the memories of loved ones at the beginning of the Advent and Christmas seasons.

There will be candle lighting, music, and prayers. You are also invited to bring an ornament to hang on a Tree of Remembrance throughout the holiday season. You may call the church at 816-252-6828, to provide the name and relationship of a loved one to be remembered by name in the service.

 

Colonial Hills serving pancakes with Santa

Enjoy a free pancake breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 2, at Colonial Hills Community of Christ, 3539 S.W. Missouri 7, Blue Springs.

Have your photo taken with Santa for $1, or bring your own camera. There will also be a Kids' Christmas Shoppe where the kids can shop for the whole family. Items are $1.50 each and gift wrapping is free gift wrapping. Drawings for prizes will also take place.

Free health clinic at Glenwood Park Methodist

Glenwood Park Methodist Church will hold a free health clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 2, 10000 E. 23rd St., Independence. The church holds the clinics on the first Saturday of the month.

The screenings, sponsored by the Black Nurse Association and the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, include glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index testing.

First Christian Christmas Capers for kids

The community is invited to Christmas Capers from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 9, in the Fellowship Hall of Independence First Christian, 125 S. Pleasant St.

Christmas Capers is for children ages 2 to 12, their parents, grandparents and guardians, and will include breakfast at 10 a.m., followed by songs, stories and crafts.

Messiah sing-along is Dec. 10

The Independence Messiah Choir has been presenting Handel's Messiah to the community since 1916. Through the years, the Choir performed in various venues in Independence and Kansas City, including the Auditorium and the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. The Choir is returning to Independence for an Advent service at 7 p.m. Dec. 10, in the Community of Christ Temple, 201 S. River Blvd., Independence. The service will feature sing-alongs and solos.
