The Raytown Branch of Mid-Continent Public Library is offering the following activities for the month of December. The library is located at 6131 Raytown Road. All activities are free, but registration is required, call 816-353-2052.

Storytime for Families: For all ages, 10 a.m. Dec. 1, 8, 22; 11 a.m. Dec. 5, 7, 12, 14, 19 and 21. Hear stories, sing songs, join in movement activities, and more.

Benton’s Year of Peril: For adults, 7 p.m. Dec. 7. Immediately after Pearl Harbor, Thomas Hart Benton painted a series of eight large panels, collectively called the “Year of Peril.” These paintings were intended to wake Americans up to the coming danger and hardship. Steve Sitton, Director of the Thomas Hart Benton Home and Studio Historic Site, will discuss Benton’s motives and the impact of these paintings. The original paintings are at the State Historical Society of Missouri in Columbia, but images will be shown.

Mr. Stinky Feet’s Christmas: For all ages, 2 p.m. Dec. 9. Jim Cosgrove presents Mr. Stinky Feet’s Christmas! Celebrate the holidays with singing, dancing, and stinky feet! Fun for the whole family!

Chess Free Play: For teens, 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 9. Play chess, learn the basics, brush up on your chess skills, challenge other players at the library. Offered in collaboration with the Raytown High School Chess Team coaches. Chess boards and chess pieces provided.

Storytime with Santa and Mrs. Claus: 10 a.m. Dec. 15. Santa and Mrs. Claus are making a special trip from the North Pole to read a holiday story at the Library. After the story, sit on Santa’s lap to tell him what you want for Christmas. Don’t forget your cameras!

Book Group: For adults, 6:30 p.m. Dec. 19 and 10 a.m. Dec. 21. Come meet like-minded people, enjoy lively discussion, learn which books inspire others, and talk about your favorite books! Call or visit a branch to find out what they are reading next.
