Remembrance service Saturday

Eastgate Christian Church will hold a special Service of Remembrance at 5 p.m. Saturday, 4010 S. River Blvd., Independence. It can be difficult to celebrate during the holiday season when we feel the pain of loved ones we have lost. This evening worship service will honor the memories of loved ones at the beginning of the Advent and Christmas seasons.

There will be candle lighting, music, and prayers. You are also invited to bring an ornament to hang on a Tree of Remembrance throughout the holiday season. You may call the church at 816-252-6828, to provide the name and relationship of a loved one to be remembered by name in the service.


Trinity's breakfast with Santa Saturday

Enjoy a free pancake breakfast with Santa from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1400 W. Sheley Road, Independence.

You may also have your picture taken with Santa. The first picture is free and additional pictures are $1 each.

Pancakes with Santa at Colonial Hills

Enjoy a free pancake breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, at Colonial Hills Community of Christ, 3539 S.W. Missouri 7, Blue Springs.

Have your photo taken with Santa for $1, or bring your own camera. There will also be a Kids' Christmas Shoppe where the kids can shop for the whole family. Items are $1.50 each and gift wrapping is free gift wrapping. Drawings for prizes will also take place.

Glenwood Park Methodist holds health clinic

Glenwood Park Methodist Church will hold a free health clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, 10000 E. 23rd St., Independence. The church holds the clinics on the first Saturday of the month.

The screenings, sponsored by the Black Nurse Association and the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, include glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index testing.

Stone Church begins Advent services

This is the first Sunday of Advent – Hope. The Center Place Singers, under director Paulette Votava Resch, will bring the 10:15 a.m. Sunday morning service to life with the theme, “Come, Lord Jesus,” at the Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.

The message will be brought by Paulette Votava Resch, with Marc Walker as presider. Other participants are Supavan Brown, Anna Rider Gard, Luke Roberts, Sandra Byrne, Jeff Benson, Kristi Atwood, Liahona Mendelsohn. Phyllis Gregg will be the accompanist for the Center Place Singers.

Christmas Capers for kids Dec. 9

The community is invited to Christmas Capers from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 9, in the Fellowship Hall of Independence First Christian, 125 S. Pleasant St.

Christmas Capers is for children ages 2 to 12, their parents, grandparents and guardians, and will include breakfast at 10 a.m., followed by songs, stories and crafts.

Messiah sing-along Dec. 10

The Independence Messiah Choir has been presenting Handel's Messiah to the community since 1916. Through the years, the Choir performed in various venues in Independence and Kansas City, including the Auditorium and the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. The Choir is returning to Independence for an Advent service at 7 p.m. Dec. 10, in the Community of Christ Temple, 201 S. River Blvd., Independence. The service will feature sing-alongs and solos.

Seminar to help protect congregations

A Church Security and Active Shooter Essentials Seminar will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 12, and repeated on Jan. 16, at the Independence Police Department, 223 N. Memorial Drive, Independence.

This seminar will equip your staff and key volunteers with information that will help you protect your congregation while maintaining a welcoming environment.
