The last two years I have sometimes struggled to keep cool (and look good), especially during the summer months. So I thought it pertinent to write about just that. How to look good, while you are dealing with increased body heat. The following is the info I offered in a column last year and I have added more because I am hot again this summer, let alone every other season.
There are several times in a ladies life that her body temperature might rise past her comfort zone. Night sweats, hot flashes, medication side effects and pregnancy are just some of our finer moments. When our body temp heats up, some woman feel that it is nearly impossible to feel comfortable, let alone look good when the moment strikes. Ladies in all stages of “the pause” know exactly what I mean. Sometimes it hits like a flash of lightning, sometimes it is just a constant warmth. Overheating in the outdoors can do the trick. Whatever the reason, here are some ideas and offerings to keep cool...and look good.
Let your skin breathe (as much as you can while maintaining style and appropriate decorum).
Choose a hairstyle that will not cause you to overheat anymore that usual. If your hair is longer, you should choose a modern up style, or sleek ponytail that will keep your hair up off your neck and away from your face. A low side part swept bang is still a very cool look. Short hair is a lot easier, as long as it is not left long around your face. If it is, try using a headband (again, very much in style) to keep hair from flopping in your face when you are warm.
Choose layered clothing such as a cami or tank under a light jacket or shirt that can be removed if you need. Look for fabric that is natural and breathes, keeping you cooler. No synthetic fabrics. Look for a sleepwear in a fabric that wicks moisture away from your skin, to help combat night sweats.
Choose makeup and skin care that is light but gives you adequate coverage and protection. Some heavy-duty moisturizers, while they do wonders, can make you skin feel like like it can’t breathe during the day. Reserve that for nighttime and use a light day cream with an added SPF during the day. There are even day creams with sunscreen and tint or bronzer in them! Mineral foundations either liquid or powder, and most wet to dry compacts, allow for great coverage and don’t feel heavy on your face. Keep your wet to dry compact handy for touch up if you happen to have a hot flash while out and about. A light vitamin, refreshing spray can do wonders as well. It won’t harm your makeup application, while giving you a refreshing feeling.
Remember to keep a small packet of tissue with you, cold bottled water helps and find yourself a small personal fan to cool the moment. One client of mine said that she found a small fan that uses a USB cable and plugs into her laptop for on the job relief! I saw a Web site for a bed fan that can blow on just your side of the bed. I thought that might be a good idea.
I hope that these offerings are helpful to all of you who have warmed up for whatever reason. Have a beautiful day!
