Last week I added to the series on hair loss, offering information on some of the wonderful support groups that are helpful for people that have do deal with hair loss, particularly alopecia.
This week I would like to familiarize you with yet another great site: www.alopeciaworld.com.
At first glance, I would compare alopeciaworld.com to many of the popular social networks, much like Facebook. Since I am a fan of Facebook, of course I am a fan of a site like it. The really cool thing is that you can build a profile, add pictures and video, and blog about whatever.
Obviously, most of the conversations surround the topic of alopecia. You can even instant message with someone if they are online with you. It is a fabulous way for people to connect, help each other and be a part of something. Everyone, wants and needs to feel like they belong.
Here is what the home page says: “Welcome to Alopecia World. Alopecia World is a unique, exciting and positively life-changing social networking site for anyone living with any type of unwanted, chronic or medical hair loss. Our beloved community also welcomes family, friends and other supporters. You can join different more specific groups and there is even a list of members birthdays.”
There is a resource section with medical links, a marketplace with links to different products like wigs, a link for different events pertaining to different groups, and you can even shop online for great stuff, to show your pride or support. I like to read the discussion forum, and the blog sites. The photos and videos are amazing as well.
If you are a person with hair loss this site is a must. If you are a person with hair, this site is a must. Sometimes we take everyday things for granted, like our hair, and forget about the fact that there are people out there that are just as wonderful as we are, and just as normal(or abnormal) they just don’t have hair. Me, I kind of fall in between. Mostly I have a head full of hair, sometimes some of it falls out in little clumps. – Keeps me hoppin’!
Have a beautiful day!
