Independence police are investigating a possible home invasion and shooting in a home in the 9800 block of Winner Road late Friday night.
A man called police about 11:45 p.m. and said that he had been shot by a man who entered his home. He said the man entered through the unlocked front door. The man went to retrieve his gun from another room, but when he returned, the intruder shot him in the face.
Several police were at the house investigating in the early morning hours Saturday and officers were talking to neighbors about the incident.
A Crime Scene Investigation unit van was on the scene and police were taking photos inside and outside the house.
Police on the scene would not confirm any details, but KMBC television reported that the victim is in critical condition.
